pw2 can't start successful after i tweaked one line on the /etc/upstart
the first time i mounted rw boot pw2 and i made a tiny change on the upstart.
i didn't enable usbnet permanent. now, after reboot,after logo, white screen, logo, the light is on. it wouldn't move on.it halt. now, the device(pw2) can't log on successfuly. no usb store, no usb0 network neither. which path i should take? to find serial port fastboot to rewrite p0, to find diag? Boot over USB HID serial / USB downloader mode ? pw2 only has power button, no home butto.. btw, i've backed up boot, root, var,etc Quote:

Use the method you quoted to revert the change you made based on the original etc in your backup files.

The data.stgz thingy won't work as-is on the PW2.
If the device is jailbroken, it *might* be possible to craft a proper tarball w/ KindleTool, but I'm a bit fuzzy on the details right now (and/or if it's even remotely helpful in theory). Anyway, in your specific case, depending on exactly when the failure first happens, even if you actually had USBMS/USBNET access, that might not have been enough. Since we still don't know how to boot the PW1/PW2 in USB download mode without opening it up, that leaves.... TL;DR: Open it up, last resort serial access. Thanks,
I missed the distinction between PW1 and PW2. It might be possible to create a variation on the "poison filename" method of installing the dev. cert. to instead install the old file contents. Should be a good learning experience for the one who has to do it. |

how long does it take for pw2's fastboot available to public?
i reckon the fastboot for k3, k4, k5 weren't available for the public for a certain amount of time for many reasons,
how long usually does it take for it publicity? i don't want to disassemble my pw2 as it is toooo risk for me. and i don't want to send it back to my internet vendor either. i download IMX6SLRM.pdf from freescale and on page 338 they didn't tell me PID,i need to ask on the https://community.freescale.com/community/imx myself. i will never, never, never change that /etc/upstart --------------------------------------- the question is that kindle's led is on.. maybe i will let that led consume all the battery. i will wait a month or two for the fastboot for pw2. |

Send it back.
If you are dealing with Amazon, they will send your replacement before they get your return. OR, Peel it open and connect to the serial port, as far as I know, that is the only way to get it into fastboot mode (via U-Boot commands). Although you don't need to get it into fastboot mode - it is a "dual boot" device, you only need to boot the alternate (Diags) system. |

i need to buy a usb->ttl 1.8b cable? (FT232RL chip?)
i tore it down and it's easier than i expected.(thanks for your encouragements ) i found the usb boot switch as well as a 1.8v serial port(P800 silk print) and a reset switch. and many many 1m*2m or 2m*4m electric capacity,resistance etc, very delicacy and fragile... i tried that usb boot switch for several times without success. (i am a newbie and you could delete my rubbish messages after 2 days.) |

When, if ever, the lead-free soldering paste gets here, I will have a few serial port connector kits:
(Shipping to USA only.) A very few. As you noted, a very tiny soldering job to be done: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...68&postcount=2 |

You neglected to mention what you are attempting to accomplish.
If trying to de-brick a PW2, try (in order): **Without USB cable connected** Option I - init FAT **Without USB cable connected** Option E - export FAT Connect USB cable Transfer the Amazon 5.4.2 image to root of user storage "Safely" remove USB cable **Without USB cable connected** Option U - update main system Wait for it to complete. I have not done this with this version of firmware - but I expect it will re-boot itself when done. If not - you have to use Option Q - quit |
