Kindle Paperwhite Review: Forget Everything Else, This Is the E-Reader You Want

Quote:
The Kindle Paperwhite is a pivotal step forward for the technology of ereaders. It makes previous generations feel like a pulpy paperback held up next to an ornately illustrated tome. In short: this is the best ereader you can buy.

Should You Buy This?

Absolutely. The Paperwhite is a great ereader, and the superb screen quality, easy-to-use frontlight, and improved capacitive controls make it an easy choice. The only reason to not get it would be if you really love physical buttons, in which case you should probably look to the Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight, which is now $120—in line with the Paperwhite's Special Offers model. Otherwise, the Kindle Paperwhite is the best ereader out there.

Forget Everything Else

Why should we forget about Kobo Glo?

"Forget Everything Else, This Is the E-Reader You Want"
Ugh, I hate it when tech authors decide that because a device meets their particular specifications, it must meet everyone else's also. I live in Australia. I want to use an SD card. I want to freely sideload my own fonts. I want to borrow public library books. Right now, the Kindle Paperwhite is exactly the e-reader I don't want.

The reviewer concludes:

Quote:
" The only reason to not get it would be if you really love physical buttons"
Nope! See above.

It is good to see that they've done the key-toss test, though. Hoping to see more of those with others of the new generation of readers.

Does the paperwhite have an option to disable simple tapping for page turns? So that you have to actually slide to turn a page?

By the way, the tragic flaw mentioned in the review sounds pretty fatal to me.

Not to me. Other reviewers say it is the best ereader to hold, physically. My Sony T1 has a very narrow bezel and it is not a problem to hold and read one handed, using a finger to turn pages.

Endgadget is quite positive in their review. I'm definitely getting this one over the Kobo Glo now.

Well, the title is just one opinion of milions though. We shall wait to see if this was right or not.

But anyway, I still want the Paperwhite

I'm not keen on the new main screen, I hope it is customisable because I don't want "suggested books" there. Feels like you can't get away from being advertised to.

What review is that? The only one I've seen is the Kindle review where it is compared to the Nook Glow light. Perhaps the Kobo Glo review is out but I haven't seen it yet.
