Exporting based on individual tags
Frankly it's like they wanted to cover all their bases and just tossed everything in there. Anyway, let's say I don't want to delete out half the tags but I want to export based on just one, say, Science Fiction - Adventure. Is there a way to do that? I know if I use the <tags> identifier, ie {tags}/{title}/{title} - {authors}, it will simply spit out the whole string of tags as the first folder name whether or not it's the only tag selected in the Tag Browser. Thanks. |

Export Naming on a single tag ![]() I am not sure how to make the Template Language guess which of the available tags you want. Have a look-See at the advanced options http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/template_lang.html This might be a place to use a custom column with the desired value

Can you not just click on that tag in the tag browser? Away from my calibre computer so cannot check.

) and then the little bit of experimenting I did it doesn't look like it's possible to get the template language to guess which tag I want it to use. There's probably a way to get it to pull a specified tag but then you'd have to do a template for each tag. Ech. Which is fine. It's pretty much an academic question for me as I do use Custom Columns but a friend was looking at my Calibre setup and said, "Why don't you just export on a single tag?" and my response was pretty much <blinkblink> "Cause I don't think I can?" |

You can set it up to use the First, nth tag, What can't be controlled is what tag is in thos positions (they appear alphabetical) Creating and populating a custom column is the only sure-fire way I know of to be able to us e{#Mycolumn}

@theducks
I am sure you are right. I thought I saw something (python program or script) that would do what the op wanted. But I am still scared of python ![]() Helen |

What the OP wants is more difficult. Frankly, it's probably easier to create a custom column and manually set the preferred tag (using Bulk Metadata Edit) than it is trying to accomplish this programmatically.
