"The 500 - Free Preview". Still shows it has 336 pages; looks like we'll have to wait til June to find out what we're getting...

I actually dont think these pre-orders are mistakes. I've only had the Kindle a couple of months, but I've seen a couple of these as free, or like the recent George Pelecanos release, for .99. Several of the free pre-releases have been with bonus material for next in a series. Don't know for sure what the marketing strategy is, but in this case for a major release for a first-time author, maybe they want the numbers high out of the gate and it's a cheap add-on to sending out lots of reviews copies?

Anyway, it's fun to find one of the "Big 6" books for free...

Hatchette has bait and switched us - it now says "free preview" and they'll probably add a linked full edition later, using the free downloads to boost ratings without giving us anything (didn't expect it with anyone but James Patterson, these days).

Sounds like folks on the amazon forums are burning up the wires to cancel their orders, so they won't boost the ratings. I'm going to hold off for a bit to see if any of the complaints bring a change.

OTOH, I did get my free HC pre-order for "Evernight with bonus material" today...

As did I (get Evernight). on the other hand, that one always claimed it was the full novel plus bonus (a common giveaway, really). This one did a title switch (with the wrong synopsis intentionally loaded), which is common for James Patterson titles. Over on Sony, they never add the "preview" info and you have no way other than the price to tell that's all you'll get.
