We have a lot of fictional detective stories from Sherlock Holmes to Dr Drib's hard boiled novels; however, the true stories are few and far between -- all I can remember are three Pinkerton stories that Harry posted. While not Lives by Plutarch, Lives of the Most Remarkable Criminals does offer interesting glimpses into an underworld few of us see except for the distorted views of the celebrated cases in the media. First published in 1735 in England, it also presents a background on why some crimes are punished as harshly as they are.
