Verizon to Open Their Wireless Network

Verizon announced that it was opening its wireless network to outside devices that are compatible with its network. (This means that the iPhone still can't be used.) They will still sell locked gear but now you can get phones elsewhere. They said they would release technical specs early in 2008 and establish a testing lab for interested companies.

They also said that they would allow anyone to sell any software to be downloaded over their network to your phone. They said it was like the Internet model.

(From an article in The Washington Post, Section D.)
