Free (Kindle) Dwight Eisenhower: A Life [Political Figure Biography]

Dwight Eisenhower: A Life by The Editors of New Word City is a short biography of that US president, free courtesy of that imprint.

Free @ Amazon (available to Canadians and in the UK).

Description
President Dwight D. Eisenhower is largely remembered as the genial, smiling face of placid 1950s America. But his life and accomplishments - he wrestled with the Cold War, McCarthyism, and school desegregation, among other hot-button issues - tell a far more complex story. Here is his surprising and inspiring story.

An appropriate biography. Eisenhower was indirectly responsible for the breakup of the extended family. His promotion of the interstate highway system made it easy for employers to demand employees move and for workers to follow jobs, leaving family behind. Prior to then, most families stayed together. of course, Eishenhower's interstate road system also brought about great prosperity -- a double-edged sword.

It was originally implemented as a defensive measure. He copied the Autobahn, which was created to allow military men and equipment to move quickly from one location to another.

Yes, it was originally proposed as a military matter. That was the only way to get congress to find it (seems like nothing has changed since the 1950s -- only military items get funded regardless how fantastic the idea is).

NWC seems to be doing a lot of one-day specials right now.

I think NWC is actually taking advantage of the KDP thing to promo their freebies, since they don't show up in the official Time-Limited Promotions listings in Amazon and all the ones thus far have also been KLL selections.

They're probably one of those reasonably desirable small publishers/imprints that Amazon's not forcing the exclusive upon (I think they may be affiliated with FT Press/Pearson Prentice Hall since IIRC some of their business shorts being collected into one of those FT Press collections we once got as a freebie).

Interesting. Amazon is not treating all participants in the program the same.

None of the ebook retailers are. Each "publisher" has it's own contract - it just happens that "KDP" is the largest (volume) publisher and all authors (or presses) under it get the same contract. Get big enough to negotiate with Amazon directly and you get different terms (just as with every other place).
