Sci-Fi Writers: Is Locus worth it?
Can anyone comment on the quality and content of Locus Magazine? I'm interested in subscribing but I want to make sure it's worth it.

I'm a Sci-Fi reader and have recently started to dabble in Sci-Fi writing.

Anyone have a subscription and care to comment?

The quality is excellent. The magazine focuses primarily on industry news; there's not much in the way of writing advice or publishing tips.

(For the latter, a better option might be Writer's Digest or the SFWA blog.)

Thanks for the feedback. I don't (yet) qualify for SFWA, but I think I'll subscribe to Locus to get more tuned to the industry.

Locus is definitely a great way to get tuned to the industry.

Just as a note, you don't have to be a member of SFWA to follow the SFWA blog. It's open to anyone, and often has more valuable information than the members-only SFWA discussion forums.

Just noticed this. My vote is yes and I subscribe to the digital edition which is great in PDF form (but available in mobi or epub as well).

I've subscribed to it for almost 20 years now on and off. As Nancy says it is more about the Industry than about writing itself. It won't teach you to write but will help tremendously in understanding the business and marketing your work.
