Credit Card Required For Kindle?

Does the Kindle require a credit card to buy books? I ask because B&N does, even if you end up paying for them with a gift card.

Thanks Harry.

By the way, and totally off topic, are you proofreading A Princess Of Mars for the fun of it or is that your job?

No to buy books no credit card is needed only enough gift card dollars on record, but some things require you have a credit card on file. For one is if you have to exchange your kindle under warranty. They want a credit card in case you don't return the old one and it needs to be on file. Once you get the acknowledgement back that they received the kindle you can go in and delete your credit card information and rely totally on gift cards once again. Another is if you want to either remove the ads on kindle w/ads. You need a credit card on file even if you have sufficient gift card dollars. For some reason you also need it to add ads to a non-ad kindle even though to do so neither charges you nor gives you a credit.

It's perhaps worth noting that the reason B&N require a credit card number is that their DRM system uses your credit card number as the encryption key for the book.
