Your amazon shortlink seems to contain a referral tag, which isn't allowed. You can replace it with the direct link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B7NPSII

The problem with taosaur's rejection of the TV show is, IMHO, one of unrealistic expectations, not of any actual poorness (is poorness even a word?!) of the TV show itself (though the show did have some serious faults).

When it was originally broadcast on SyFy I was a fan of the series and looked forward towards the next episode every week. I had no expectations other than I wanted it to entertain me, which it did. My lack of expectations was because I was unaware that there even was book series so I, of course, had never read any of them so had nothing to compare to the TV show.

Well, when the series was not renewed I was quite unhappy about the decision. So then I looked into this Jim Butcher guy who was named in the show's on-screen credits and found the book series. I bought them and voraciously read them all, finding that they were much better than the TV show that I'd liked so much that I'd gone looking for the books on which it had been based.

I'll guess that forsooth hasn't read the books either. If he does he's in for a treat. He'll have enjoyed both an entertaining TV show and the material that provided the impetus for its production. Lucky him...lucky me!

Not too uncommon an experience. How many people will read George RR Martin or Tolkien after seeing the TV series Game of Thrones or the Lord of the Ring Movies?

Martian Chronicles?
A few more too. I will have to think a bit.

One that really, really "sucked" though was ET. I saw the movie and love it, then read the book. It was just plain awful.

:-) I am one such person who read LOTR after watching the movies. I liked the movies so much that I wanted to know more, so I started reading the book. Off course I am not sure about game of thrones.

That shortlink referral tag tells amazon that someone used their amzn.com domain as a shortlink...

The tag = "hey I came from amzn.com!"

But it was good detective work.

No detective work involved. Clicked the link and saw what looked like a referral tag in the browser bar. Search refs are easy to identify because of their format. This type, not so much apparently.

I should probably also point out that link shorteners are also frowned upon on MR. Normally it's because you can't see where they go, but in the case of amazon, they can hide referral tags. I know this not because I dislike affiliates, but because I am an affiliate who gets annoyed that Amazon makes it so difficult for me to figure out if I'm posting a clean link or not.

Which reminds me that I need to go cancel my affiliate account because I don't use it anymore.

Edited to add: I apologize for the mis-identification. Meant to include that in my post but my mind got sidetracked in my musings on the affiliate program.

Now that's going a bit far. To each their own, but I've found Supernatural a lot of fun the whole way through, and like the direction they've taken the mythos this past season.

I never rejected the TV show--I watched it years before I picked up the books and found it decently entertaining, and definitely better than most SyFy productions (especially at that time).

Don't worry, I totally understand. It is a very obscure piece of Amazon trivia, which I think is very cool and makes things much simpler (since in general all amazon links are full of garbage). I expect people not to recognize it, but in most other places, people won't actually check to see where my link is taking them... Possibly those unstoppable Internet Explorer users.

For future reference, everyone, amzn.com/{asin} is a short really compact way of linking to any amazon page with an asin, and provided by amazon itself, which they should really start using themselves maybe.
