Comic Book Recommendations?

I was checking out the comics through the Comixology app on my iPad. DC is rebooting the DC universe again., and there may be some interesting new stuff coming. However, I see there are LOT more comics thout there than just DC/ Marvel, and I want to branch out.

Can anyone recommend any other comics, or, if we want to get high-falutin, graphic novels? tia.

Yes, The Walking Dead for sure. I am on about comic 58 of the series. Just keeps getting better and better.

my all time favorite is modesty blaise. many compare her to james bond, but i think she (and her faithful companion, willie garvin) and in a league of their own. many of the graphic novel-sized collections are now on amazon, although they are actually from many years of daily running comic strips in the uk.

Alan Moore's daughter did a great 5 issue Sherlock Holmes series. Paul Dini's Madame Mirage looks a little cheese-cakey, but was quite good. I also second the Fables rec. I add to it House of Mystery (the currently running one from Vertigo). I also reccomend Strangers in Paradise and Echo from Terry Moore.

ETA: my partner and I own more than 2,000 comic books, and those are just my favorites. I'll get her to weigh in on hers later today.

Agreed. I've read all 88 issues so far. And...my breath has been taken away several times. I can't wait for "The Rise of the Governor" to come out.

Anyone remember Atlas/Seaboard from the 70's The Scorpion Phoenix and Planet of Vampires. Being revived right now.

I don't know what's available digitally, but a couple of my favourites:

Osamu Tezuka - I’ve liked everything I’ve read of him, but I *love* Phoenix. Also Adolf, Buddha, Apollo's Song, among others. He’s often called the godfather of Anime, and was very productive. The Complete Manga Works of Tezuka Osamu apparently contains 80.000 pages, and it’s far from comprehensive. A lot of it is not translated yet, but more and more are coming out in English. There was an ipod-app that gave you access to a lot of his work for a subscription fee, but I read that it didn’t work very well, they may have fixed it.

Gilbert Hernandez. Palomar 1(Heartbreak Soup Stories) is a good place to start.

And even if you can’t get it through the app you’re using, I also recommend checking out Strangers in Paradise.
