Microsoft Enterprise Strategist Jeff Johnson took the stage in the “Windows device session” to talk about the company’s upcoming tablet strategy and showed off not one but two tablets. The first — and the most intriguing — he proclaimed to be a “quad core Windows Slate that will be give(n) out at an upcoming Microsoft event.” What event could he be talking about exactly? Well, syncing up with information we’ve heard from our own sources, we’d say it is very likely that he is referring to Microsoft’s BUILD Conference in early September, which will focus on Windows 8.

The one on the left looks pretty sleek. The one on the right, not so much.

Well Nvidia's quad quore processors are supposed to generate less heat and need less power than the current dual core ones. So is this the Windows 8 on Arm processors.

The chunky one is no vapor; it is a new Fujitsu WinTel tablet for the industrial/commercial markets. Probably ruggedized and vertical-apps ready. Not a consumer product.

The thin one, given the announcement, is likely a reference design/development system to give app developers a testbed for early release apps targetting Win8Arm. While it may never be a consumer product (could be a small batch of a few thousand produced for MS to give away) it could also be a real product from a Microsoft partner, say Samsung or HTC. MS has gone both ways in the past. Consider it a sign of things to come.

That's a battery, but I'll give you that... it is a sleek battery.

Not really much to go on. I did really like MS courier design too bad they did not try to go to market on that.

The "thin one" is the black slate in the first two pics; the Fujitsu (and removable battery pack) is the gray device featured in the third pic (and the embedded link).

MS is back to their sneaky tactics . I think the purpose of that shot was to show a tablet with a removable battery.

I think the most interesting part of the post, you had to jump to ZDnet was the correlation he made to the Asus Transformer that is coming out this Fall. It too is a quad core device.

I tell you I would like to have a dual boot device that can jump between Windows and Android.

You say black, but the edge is gray, and the back is in shadow, and there is something black on top of it. But yes, I see now that there are two devices. Thanks.
