Plane lighting and e-books

I don't fly very often so I can't remember how much the individual seat lights on planes give at night. I assume it should be lots to read by but I know I do like a little more light with my Kobo than a paper book. What's people's experience with this?

Plenty of light on a plane.

I've flown with my reader a few times, and it was fine. Remember they usually have the overhead reading lights that shine on the individual seats. I used those when I read on the plane and had no problems.

I've not had a problem, but then if I did my Sony cover with built in light would come to the rescue.

The light quality varies a bit. On one older airplane I recall it a narrow hot spot that was too far away from me so I used my Sony light-case. Most of the time plane lights are okay for my eyes.

Usually the plane lights are fine for me. Don't forget that often you can adjust the light so it shines where you want. I also bring a book-light with me just in-case. I was on a flight recently where the seat light was broken for a passenger near me. The flight attendant brought her a book-light to use. I was surprised they had one available.

No problem at all. Some of the planes use fixed lights, others lights that can be adjusted (directionally), but in both cases, the light was more than enough to read.

I have flown Airbus, Boeing, MD, Embraer, CRJ, ATR and all had good lights. So i am pretty sure you are ok.

The two flights I've taken since I've had my Kindle have had more than adequate lighting for some airborne enjoyment.

They do have plenty of light, but I really prefer to keep that off and just use the light on my Kindle cover.

I prefer to use my own light rather than the plane light. My daughter and I flew on the weekend and my light (which couldn't be adjusted) shone on the armrest between us while her light was very dim. She twisted around and rested her Kobo on the armrest to use the plane light from my seat while I used my little portable light and lent against the window.

No problem with light, but I had to buy a stronger pair of reading glasses for the flight (only £1 at Poundsavers). My normal reading glasses focus best at about 15-24", which is a comfortable distance to hold my DXG. On a plane, I can't have it that far away due to the seat in front (I travel cattle class), stronger glasses focus closer.

Having just returned from an international flight, I can say that Delta's light were more than adequate.

I usually use my Kindle 3, along with the built-in light from the Kindle case.

However, this current trip, I wanted to read from my new nook Color, and see how the reading would be on a non-eInk device. It was very, very nice.

However, in my experience the overhead lights on the planes do vary - but pleasantly so and without any problems.

1) Always write 3 sentences of exposition; 2) now create some dialogue, preferably no more than 2 sentences; and 3) make certain the dialogue is either inane or humorous. Example:
“Bob, I did not know you wore yellow suspenders,” Sally remarked.
“Gee, Sally, those are not suspenders. I am wearing yellow underwear today,” Bob revealed.

The dialogue above will help produce at least 100 more pages of dialogue.

I have flown a fair amount with my Kindle and have never had a problem with lighting. I do carry my headlamp in my carry on just to be safe but I have ended up using it at hotels more frequently then on the plane.

If you're really worried about the lighting, I'd snag a light for your e-reader just to have as a backup.
