and than fails and reboots. looks like the menu / rotate buttons are working, but the recovery is crippled not to proceed if the serial on sys/class/graphics/fb2 properties is missing. anybody has an idea about a modified update.zip that does not check this?

This is what I was talking about (check my first reply about a corrupted file system)...It's not the ubifs partition that's b0rked though, it's an ext2 partition. The problem is that the kernel itself can't load. The kernel is really important, and if the update script its trying to load it, I'm sure it is for a reason.

I understand that ext2 is the internal sd card in the edge. any idea if this can be formatted or restored somehow? my android is booting fine, but lcd only.

ext2 is a file system type. (Like fat32.) It should be able to be overwritten or formatted. I'm not sure exactly why it's trying to boot the kernel off that partition instead of just formatting it, honestly. Seems weird.

The kernel has to load. The update.sh script is just a script running on top of linux...which runs on top of the linux kernel. So that's why the kernel has to run

vicinc, try this.

Insert a usb stick with dingo-golden renamed as update.zip into your PE.

Boot it up, and hit a key to stop the boot process.

Now type
Code:
run boot_maint --maint_user=cmd5

looks like we will have to flash your recovery image fresh from within u-boot. I'll give it a look to see what has to be done, but you can check it out too.

My thoughts are this is the idea:
1. grab the *.img.crc files from the dingo update
2. put themsomewhere u-boot can see them (not sure...maybe flash drive?)
3. read through the update.sh to find offsets, etc. of where to flash those images
4. translate that into whatever u-boot commands are needed to write the images
5. tell u-boot to boot.
5. pray to whatever diety you want if you think it will help.

Sure. It's not terribly complicated

So are we all going to become microprogramming experts? We should have an arduino section here, and get fbreader running on it with a touchscreen ;-)

Should do the job without any problems - it might be a good idea to get the solder sucker with it as well, that way removing components becomes easy.

I can see several people becoming proficient, not only in programming but in physical repairs for the edges.

My big regret is that both the EE and PE have held their price over here in Europe. That alone stops me from tearing my EE apart and producing a parts list and since the PE appears to be the device having the most physical problems it becomes even harder when I need to work from photographs

honestly I prefer to open up, cut the case, solder my PE, set the serial port than messing with the scripts..... I really hope the clever guys here will get a way to flash my device from serial interface or other way...

Unhappy Borked but hopeful

Hi Folks,

I was trying to create an image of my Pocket Edge. I upgraded to the Allme image and thought it would be great to have a backup of my image. I know just enough to get into trouble. I googled creating backups of Android and well, to make a long story short, I borked my device by swaping the if and of while using the dd command. My device (in the terminal, thanks for the wiring diagrams and stuff) claims to not find the bad block and can not access the root partition. Here are the log files from Termite:

Two boots are included. 1st if before 'run boot_user' and 2nd after.
Any help will be much appreciated. This is my wifes Edge, and she is glaring at me with evil in her eyes......
