Sorry, can't see the video, were there just device manufacturers or any e-book publishers as well?

The part of the clip showing the expo's pretty short, and there are no specific devices covered. However, it's a useful counter to the other thread about a lack of appetite for this in Japan. The few examples shown were illustrated books, though - there was a comic book and what looked like a children's book with animation - no plain text, and the devices weren't eInk, they were backlit.

Well, a step in right direction, I guess. I have got a feeling that market for children's ebook with animations is untapped. Off course this will need sturdy, safe and intuitive tablets (within reasonable price range) specifically made for kids.

Google "tokyo book fair e-books" and you should find a PDF containing the following:

eBooks doubles in size!
e-Book Expo Tokyo (eBooks), held concurrently with TIBF, will return at double its previous scale, reflecting fast-growing e-Book market in Japan and around the world. The show brings together a wide variety of the latest e-book devices, content, and technologies under one roof. On July 7, an eBooks international seminar (English/Japanese) will be held, inviting seasoned industry professionals representing International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) USA, Sony, Google Japan, and Impress Holdings. Mr. Juergen Boos, Director of the Frankfurt Book Fair, will also join the discussion. The seminar is attracting a lot of attention from industry professionals worldwide, and has become a must-attend event."

They are going to have to do some fancy stepping to catch up to the rest of the world. I still have never seen a single dedicated e-book reader in the Kansai region, nor has any Japanese ever asked me about mine. I've been asked by Western tourists visiting Japan if I was using a Kindle, but never asked by a Japanese.
