runtime of first import - 888 books, 744 mins

My mother got her iPad2 on Friday, so I filled their device with books yesterday. Without saving the books within iTunes (both checkboxes are not marked, in iTunes and in Calibre) the transfer needed 744 mins to complete for the 888 books. Is this runtime normal - 50sec/book?
