Whispernet no longer supporting PRC?
I tried sending a PRC file via email to my kindle today. Unfortunately it bounced back with this error:
The following document, sent at 11:39 PM on Tue, Jun 14, 2011 GMT could not be delivered to the Kindle you specified: * Somebook.prc The Kindle Personal Document Service can convert and deliver the following types of documents: Microsoft Word (.doc) Rich Text Format (.rtf) HTML (.htm, .html) Text (.txt) documents Archived documents (zip , x-zip) and compressed archived documents Mobi book Has this happened to anyone else? The help pages on amazon say that PRC is supported, but I'm getting this problem. Has Amazon dropped support for PRC files? |

Lots of other people have been reporting rejection emails today for personal docs of all kinds being sent to their Kindle email addresses. I think I'd just chalk it up to a "bad hair day" for Amazon's servers and try again tomorrow.

Same here. It's defiantly down.
I had to plug my Kindle it and sideload my books. I have the most flaky browser on my K3. I have to reboot the Kindle to get it to download from Dropbox every couple of days. I tried emailing the book to gmail but the Kindle browser doesn't support separate windows so I can't download it. Is there a web email where I can send myself an attachment? I need a backup. Got a support email back from Amazon about it. Basically just a canned response about the different formats that can be sent, whitelist my email, make sure its not over 15 megs, ect.

It's not ideal*, but it does work, and I was able to download my book by 3g before they closed the airplane doors. Also, there is a hack for addressing the seperate window issue if you're so inclined. I have not tried it myself yet. *When you view the email in skweezer and click on the download link, you'll get an error that skweezer can't handle it. Click on the 'view without skweezer' link on the error page, and, poof, you get the book. how much simpler if the k3 just had a k2-like simple browser mode or if gmail would just offer the simple wap style mobile view. Thanks I will check it out! I never heard of that site.
I saw on Twitter they are working on Whispernet issue so hopefully it will be back soon. Right now I found a box.net app for my phone and I'm using that. I download from Dropbox then upload to Box.net from phone then use my kindle to get the book from box.net. I have not figured out why Dropbox doesn't work all the time when no one else has this issue. My Kindle is special I guess. It just easier to email the book to my Kindle then to reboot everytime it stops working. |
