Both started with a base of Le Mort d'Arthur by Thomas Malory. From there each adapted and extracted the stories they saw fit to include and then each retold the legend in their own way. Yes, they do both cover some of the same ground; yet both are unique. There is also an extract from the original Malory text of the Holy Grail section in Harvard Classics Volume 35.
