Version not updated

for some time I use Calibre and I reaaly like it. One of the recurring jobs is the installation of the updates. since version 0.7.53 the version number that is displayed in the left bottom corner remains the same regardless of the upgrade I installed (latest: 0.8.3) and restarting windows.

can this be changed?

The number is always the version it is running!

Does the displayed number have an asterisk at the end? If so then this means that you are running from source, and source always over-rides binary. It can happen if you run from source at any pooint and forget you have set this up (which is why the asterisk is appended to the version number to act as a visible reminder when running from source).

If so the answer is to unset the environment variable specifying the source location (or get the latest source).

If that is not what is happening then I would think that you have multiple versions of Calibre installed and you are not running the one you think you are.

DId you perchance install the source code at some point? Does the 0.7.53 have a * next to it? remove your CALIBRE_DEVELOP_FROM environment variable which is pointing to an out of date copy of the source code.

EDIT: gazumped

Nope, there is no * at the end. Literally it states (except the quotes:

"calibre version 0.7.53 created by Kovid Goyal"

How are you starting Calibre? Desktop Icon or Start Menu?

I think @itimpi has the right idea. 2 Calibres installed (1 is not in the default install program location). You could Search "all files" for: Calibre.exe

Calibre must be fully shut down (No tray Icon) for the install to complete correctly.
