Borders Express - Reader Accessories?

I was just at a Borders Express this weekend and was shocked to find two (2) leather covers in the bargin bin at $1.99 each. (needless to say I bought them both) The explanation was that they were sent to them in error and eventually when they never sold (no Sony Reader display to put them at) they decided to bargin them to get rid of them. So, I guess if it happened once, it could have happened many times. I for one am going to keep an eye on the Borders Express from now on...

You know, you make me sick!! -- JUST JOKING!

Actually, I bought a nice red leather one for $40.00 and used it until about 3 weeks ago. The fact is, I fold my front back and the thing just got so dirty-looking - with no way to clean it as far as I can tell - that I retired it into the closet.

I then put the original back on. I'm ok with the original black one, but it doesn't show dirt and grime the way the leather one does.

---Make certain those leather ones fit proper.

---And a great buy on finding those two!

Don

Do you have two readers, going to rotate them, or going to make a profit off of one of them? *hint, hint*

I bought the second unit with the purpose of having it if the first ever went down and also with the intent of rotating them, but I'm not really doing that with the frequency I thought I would.

Interestingly (because I didn't really plan it this way), I've started to put literature titles on the main memory of the second, newer reader. I have two more SD cards, but I haven't started to use them at this moment.

The first Reader has genre titles on the main memory, and also has an SD card installed and on this card I have a mix of everything.

Although I didn't buy it with the purpose of making a profit, I keep going back and forth on whether to sell it or not. This is because I'm lusting after a Cybook Gen3.

Don't you have a Reader?

Don

Reader, yes. I'm starting to get a little lust for Cybook myself.... But I was trying to find out if tobias might be thinking about selling his other cover that he picked up for $1.99....

Actually, I was thinking about selling one, not 'for profit' as it were, just because I really dont need 2. However My wife has recently been talking about getting a reader so she doesnt have to carry around a couple books everywhere she goes. So now, what I am looking at is IF she likes using the reader (I have loaned her mine..) and we get her one then she will use the red cover and I will continue using the brown. If she doesnt like it then, yeah I will sell the RED cover at cost + shipping it and Vulcs you got dibs at this point. It will take probably a week or so to know if she is going to want a reader or not.

Can you please describe your withdrawal symptoms in detail now that your wife has taken over your Reader. For example, are you experiencing any kind of drool or slavering? Any slack-jaw, aimless wandering, or passing of gas?

We may have a new disease here, and I feel that a thorough documentation can help those in future need.

Sincerely,
Don

Thank you! If you decide to sell I'll happily buy.... And if not, then that means there will be yet another Reader user in the wild, and I'll be happy with that instead.

To be honest, from what I've seen of the Cybook Gen3, other then the screen, it doesn't do that much more or different (other then a different ebook format) then the Sony. If I was to purchase another reader, it would have to do something much more.

And the first Cybook Gen3 is not going to have the 16 shades. it'll only be 4 shaeds like the Sony. Once they get the controller in production that can handle the 16 shades, then yeah. But for now, it's not really worth it (IMHO). What will happen is someone will come out with a better unit be it Sony or Cybook or iRex or whomever and you'll then what that. The gen3 isn't enough of an upgrade at the moment to warrant a $350 outlay of money. That $350 would be best saved for the unit beyond the Sony and Cybook. The iLiad is nice, but it is a bit expensive. My feeling is you have your Sony. Just wait. The OSny will work and let you read books just fine. The next gen unit after the current Sony and Cybook will be the one you might want.

I agree, if you have a Reader there's little reason to buy a CyBook.

Given that they are approximately the same price, if you're looking to buy a eBook reader it depends basically:

1. Where you live.

2. Which eBook format you prefer.

I probably shall buy a CyBook because I have an iLiad, and it would be nice to have a compact BookReader to take away on trips that can read the same MobiPocket books I have on my iLiad.

Unless of course...

You are one of the officers of a company marketing the Cybook Gen3!

Which is the state I'm in. So I'm going to be buying not one but TWO Cybooks! (One will have to be sacrificed on the altar of science, sub-category 'evaluation testing', but it's all for a worthy cause.)

Any day now.

Jon, you examine only need and reality. Don and the others are talking about gadget lust (AKA gizmo lust.) Logic has little or nothing to do with their reality. It is almost like talking to an out of control member of THAT political party.

I would love to review the Cybook Gen3 vs the Sony Reader. Of course, I would be totally unbiased. Anyone want to help me out in this regard?
