Where did my 100 Kobo ebooks go (and other Kobo problems)
Hi everyone,
I purchased a Kobo which decided to break at the start of the year. The Kobo team sent me back a new one, with the new firmware upgrade on it (which I hadn't had on my original Kobo because I thought it had way too many bugs on it). I am now having a few problems and was wondering if someone could please help since I couldn't find a specific thread to help me. 1. I can't find my 100 free ebooks that I originally had as they're not showing up on the Kobo screen. When I load the Kobo into calibre I can go to the "device" window and see them listed but I can't read them. 2. I bought a book on Kobo and it keeps saying that it's locked. It is an "Adobe DRM EPUB" but it won't load into calibre. I've tried approving the device on my computer in the Adobe Digital Editions but no dice. Edit: There are no apostrophes in the author's name or the book title. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much! Last edited by Katdragon; 03-22-2011 at 05:16 AM. Reason: More info added |

The pre-loaded books may be hidden on your Kobo - when in the Books section check out the Menu-Display option as it allows you to show all books or hide the preloaded books. I had the same "issue" with the second Kobo we purchased as it had the pre-loaded books hidden by default and I was not aware of this option. For your second issue it is likely that someone will have more help to offer but you may need to clarify the situation. If you purchased the book from Kobo as an Adobe DRM EPUB then you will need to use ADE to load it on the Kobo (without getting into options on removing DRM etc).

Katdragon, when you say that the book "won't load into calibre" what do you mean, what error message do you get?
Books with DRM can be uploaded into calibre but you can't open (read) them via calibre or make any changes (eg add covers etc). As razmichael says, if you are simply transferring DRM'd books to your kobo it is probably better to use ADE instead. calibre is better for setting up libraries, adding covers, editing metadata, converting to different formats etc - and all these require the book to be DRM free. |

you dont need to use ADE to add the books to your kobo but you do have to authorize your kobo with ADE.
Just plug kobo in and start ADE it will authorize kobo and then you can read DRM'ed books on the kobo. |

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the tips. I've found the missing books so that's fantastic. I managed to get the book working in ADE although I have no idea how I did it . I pretty much erased the book from ADE and then downloaded it again - which seems to have done the job! So thanks again |
