You can buy Kindle or B&N ebooks for Kindle for PC (or Mac) and Nook for PC (or Mac). However, in order to use these Kindle or B&N ebooks on your Kobo, you will first have to strip the DRM (encryption). In the case of Kindle ebooks you will also have to convert from MOBI to ePub using Calibre. For this reason, the 3rd party DRM stripping plugins to Calibre are often the best approach. See Apprentice Alf's Blog for more info on DRM.

Do yourself a favour, Wildcat, and download the excellent and free Calibre Library software from www.calibre-ebook.com. Buy from anywhere you like and even use Calibre to convert from format to format if the ebook isn't DRM-padlocked. Good luck and best wishes. Neil.

Can't think of any. Ahh removing DRM is pretty hard and we can't exactly help you with it on this forum. But good luck anyway

Not so hard....but then again, I'm an IT guy
. I used to keep my books as is (DRM'd), but lately have decided to remove the DRM from my entire collection as insurance for when I switch computers (happens often for me as I try new operating systems and such) and someday upgrade to a new reader. It just seems like a wise way to preserve my investment and not have to repurchase. Craig (And the files are not shared...) Last edited by caheaton; 03-11-2011 at 09:38 PM. |

There's two other ebook stores I've used with my Kobo.
Google eBookstore, http://books.google.com/ebooks , sells books in the Adobe DRM format which you can download to your computer and then USB transfer to the Kobo via Adobe Digital Editions. And the same with Books On Board, http://www.booksonboard.com . Books on Board sells physical books as well as ebooks in different formats including the Adobe DRM ePub format that you can use on your Kobo. Use Adobe Digital Editions to transfer the ePub from your computer to the Kobo via USB. |
