boot off logo

Hi ,

I have added boot off logo to my pocket book 301+ and the image remain on the screen after the system is turned off , My concern here is if the image continue to show after the system turned off will it affect the battery life of the ebook reader. Since it is a static image will it burn the screen or leave any artifacts .

Thanks
Bob

No to both of your questions, bobgoe.

The screen only consumes power when it changes (e.g. turning pages in a book), the static display of an image doesn't need any power.

And there won't be any burning effects. What you most probably will experience is an effect that is called "ghosting". After turning on your reader again it may be that you still see some "rests" of your boot off logo. But this disappears after a screen refresh.

That's the idea for a boot off logo, you'll have a picture of your choice when the reader is off.
As E-Ink consumes only power when flipping pages (admittedly there is a small power drain for system, clock, etc) it will not consume any electrical power and burning the screen is only a problem with cathode ray tubes and plasma screens, never with LCD and similar technologies like E-Ink

While TFT monitors do not suffer from heavy burn-in effects, they may show weak burn-in effects when diplaying the same image for a long time, though. (pixels permanently lose their ability to return to their relaxed state after a continued static usage profile)

Yes, the low power consumption is one of the major reasons why we all bought an reader using eInk technology, in the first place.
Anyway, it would be nice if we could have a battery with a higher capacity for the reader and, of course some option to turn the G-sensor off completely.
