Memoir: Funny in Farsi (PDF format)

I saw this on the Amazon boards and the book looks pretty good... I'm new here... will post an intro later

For a limited time, Random House is offering Funny in Farsi: A Memoir of an Iranian Growing up in America for free:

http://www.schoollibraryjournal.com/...90&source=link

It includes a letter and 2 essays from the author and a discussion/teacher's guide.

Hi, candytx, welcome to MobileRead. I was just getting ready to post this and was trying to decide where to put it.

I grabbed the pdf yesterday (when I was trying to avoid doing my taxes). It never reached my collections in my reader. I started reading it on my laptop as a way to procrastinate doing my taxes.

I'm about half way through it and found that I am really enjoying her book.

I just finished reading this book about 15 minutes ago. It is a thoroughly enjoyable book, despite the horrid PDF formatting after "reflowing" to a readable text size. I haven't laughed so much while reading a book for quite a while.

It's also available for purchase at Fictionwise in Mobipocket if you don't want to contend with the PDF formatting errors.

Glad to hear it's good... I've got a few ahead of it... I was just jazzed that someone offered a memoir up for grabs for free, I don't find many of those and that's my favorite genre.

Candytx - It's definitely the most humorous book I've read in a long time. The author definitely has a humorous outlook on life. I'm sure you'll find it one of the more enjoyable memoirs you've read in a while.

She has a new book now, which I believe is called Laughing Without an Accent. It's also available at Fictionwise, but unfortunately at around a $20 price. I'll definitely keep an eye on it and buy it if the price comes down.

Hope you enjoy "Farsi" as much as I did!

Finally finished this during Spring Break. I have to agree with Steve K as I found myself laughing out loud as I pictured some of the situations.

I started it on my computer and transferred to my Sony 505 about a third of the way through. Even though the reflow was not that great, the story was so funny that I didn't even notice the format.

I'm waiting for a better price on her next book.

Dream and Steve - I agree, I finished it a week or two ago... I was surprised by how downright funny the author was... great book, even better price I'll be grabbing the other one soon.

I read this one on my road trip last weekend. I really enjoyed it very much and wished that it had been longer. I guess I'll have to look for her newest book.

I had read the first chapter on my laptop, but for the trip I transferred it to my Sony 505. It was nearly impossible to read at the "S" font size because the margins made the text so small. When I set it to "M", then the text was easy to read, although there were awkward line breaks when the text didn't really reflow properly.

I just downloaded this book, used Colibre to convert it to ePub and started reading on my jetBook. It looks like really funny books...

Thanks for this link!

“How to Write the First 3 Paragraphs of YOUR Indie Novel” - by Max Waxwelp
1) Always write 3 sentences of exposition; 2) now create some dialogue, preferably no more than 2 sentences; and 3) make certain the dialogue is either inane or humorous. Example:
“Bob, I did not know you wore yellow suspenders,” Sally remarked.
“Gee, Sally, those are not suspenders. I am wearing yellow underwear today,” Bob revealed.

The dialogue above will help produce at least 100 more pages of dialogue.

The free copy linked in the original post is no longer available, which is not surprising as it was almost 4 years ago. Currently $11.99 in the US Kindle store.
