Martin Amis is rude...

...yeah, I know Martin Amis being rude is not really news, but now he is being rude about children's authors. He would only write for children if he suffered a serious head injury he says here.

I'd venture that, for most of the world, Martin Amis existing is news. I've been an avid reader all my life, and never heard of the man before this post.

Son of Kingsley Amis, (whom you may or may not of heard of), and very well known literary figure. In case you would like to acquaint yourself with him, here is what Wikipedia has to say.

Ah! so he is the CHILD of a good writer! I too have never heard of him. Is he any good? What's he written? It's too much trouble to go to Wikipedia, the same place I might add, where Peter Doocey has a write up.

Sounds like the kind of person I would only read if I suffered a serious head injury.

Wait, I did suffer a serious head injury, and I still didn't read him.

Perhaps he suffered a head injury as a child and could't read back then. So he reads those fantastic books for kids as an adult and figures out he wasn't missing much...

Martin Amis is extremely well-known; he's one of the most famous modern British authors.

Y'all should expand your horizons.

Right. You don't have to appreciate his opinions to accept that he is a well known author.

His books are widely sold outside of the U.K., too. He's made a career out of hating a lot of stuff. He's got writing talent. He's kind of an ass, IMO.

He didn't say children's authors suffer from brain injury.

He clearly states he cannot think about who he is writing for and what it would take for him to gain this perspective.

How is that rude?

London Fields, Other People, Time's Arrow and Night Train are pretty good. He wrote some really inspirationally-good prose in these books, but sometimes neglects his storylines.

His recent stuff has been pretty bad. For me, The Information was the turning point.

He's always been unapologetic about his opinions and seemed to enjoy holding points-of-view that went against the general consensus. Sadly, this seemed more important to him than actually promoting a considered perspective.

This particular statement is typically brainless. There are some stunning books in both children's and young adults' literature. It's his problem if he hasn't read past certain authors who are the equivalent of Dan Brown to 'adult' literature.
