More emdash woes

I'm working on a very long text (1.5mb) in Bookdesigner and have JSWolf's latest Book Cleaner files installed. I inserted all the emdashes, then saved the file as a BD file.
When I returned to it later, I noticed that all the 'oe' dipthongs had become emdashes too. So I altered the lot, saved the file and went off to have supper. I've just opened the file, and all the 'oe's have reverted to emdashes. Much cursing has ensued.
Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong, or how to save 'oe's permanently?
I've just had a look at some of my earlier bd files, and they too have not saved the 'oe's.

Check that Book Cleaner actually has the 2 profiles loaded and that you have oe converted to qqqqq and qqqqq converted back to oe. That's what I have. But sometimes Book Cleaner can lose it's settings and you may not know other then looking.

One other piece of advice, I set my language to German before I load in a book. And if I have an HTML0 file that's not german, I change the the settings and change what needs to be changed such as German as the language.

I use French like Harry's tutorial says. If there are Emdashes.. I just say a mild cuss word (OOOHH That VEXES ME!!!) and Press Make Book anyway.. I figure I can Bleep through the Emdashes... For me reading is a fast image producing experience so I the spelling doesn't bug me much...

losing the emdashes does bother me. And I found that German works better then French. Less gotchas.

Problem solved: thanks Jon.
I've moved to German and everything is ok. This is essential because I'm contemplating some Goethe and G-the looks silly.

I use the "German" setting, too. I find that works fine for everything I've tried so far. There were some "funnies" with French.

I don't find the French funny.

That's probably because you're British.

I'm both British and a Francophile - see the number of French novels I've uploaded. And there are some very funny passages in Proust. Even Saint-simon has his moments.

My mother is a rampant francophile (taught French for 30-odd years), that's part of why I find them amusing, I suppose -- I mean, they've just got so much Gaul.
