Woolf, Virginia: The Waves. v1. 18 June 07
This is an important work.
It's experimental in nature, and utilizes a stream-of-consciousness narrative technique. This novel will not be for everybody, but if you like experimental novels that explore relationships couched within a narrative framework that approximates the inner workings of the mind, and a novel told in language both delicate and poetic then you will appreciate this novel.
Here's a quote:
"One of Woolf’s most experimental novels, The Waves presents six characters in monologue - from morning until night, from childhood into old age - against a background of the sea. The result is a glorious chorus of voices that exists not to remark on the passing of events but to celebrate the connection between its various individual parts."
I hope you enjoy it.
