Sony 650,950 or others?

Hi,
As wrote in my presentation,I'm looking to a e-reader.

I wish a thing with is easy to read and accept texts I can transform with software. The first e-reader will be for my girl friend, but I want try it myself because I'm looking to buy a second.I'm a great reader of newspapers,or specialised magazine downloaded on the internet(most colors PDF files) and my eyes are tired reading on bright computers screens.
So,it is why I said 'transformation' and 'software' (I suppose it is possible to do that).

The Sony 650 seems a good device to me?

But,reading the posts,I found this one where Sun Surfer says :
Quote:
However, the Sony 950 is going on sale starting the 12th for $250. You say that that's (barely) in your price league (since that's the price of the nook colour) and it is a very fine device.
(If anybody knows where is the 'special price, please write it her or via 'Private Message')

If I consider the 650 will cost to me 230$+20$ and the 950, 250$+40$ (s.& handling included) I'for the 950 I'll prefer pay for the 950.

My question is:do you think the 650 or 950 are the good e-reader to do the tings mentionned in the intro ?

None of the epaper devices will work with color, so if that's really important to you, you might be better looking at some of the tablets. A touch screen makes all the difference when reading periodicals and the new Sonys have a nice navigation bar at the bottom of periodicals. Being able to tap "next section" or "next article" makes a huge difference when trying to navigate through them. If you're reading PDFs with lots of images, tables, and diagrams, a larger screen will make them much more readable. If you're reading text based books, the 6" is very readable.

Sony 650 is an awesome device, but I suggest to check your favorite books on several online bookstores, so you can get a better pictures and enlarge your pool of options.

You said you are a retired person and looking for something easy for your eyes, so based on that comment please discard: iPAD, Nook color, or any LCD screen. Like you, I work with computers the whole day and I suffer eye strain, so when reading for pleasure or at home, I want something easy for my eyes like a Nook, Kindle or even Sony.

I don't own a Sony but I've played a bit on several electronic stores close to home. I like that you can make annotations and it's touch screen, but still no wifi and for that price, I think it's unacceptable (my opinion here)

My suggestion: please check your favorites books on several online bookstores so you can expand or narrow your pool of options. Besides Sony, your options are Nook 1st generation or Kindle 3; the former is shipped internationally and I can say the screen is really crisp and good your eyes.

With the Kindle 3, you can rotate the device, landscape mode, and will expand the page a bit. You can also zoom images

Honestly, not sure if you can with the Sony. Maybe another forum member can expand on that.

The 950 provides an excellent landscape viewing mode, especially with the extra inch the screen provides.

Hi again.

I send a e-mail to Sony Store(Us) and they don't answer to my question about delivers the 950 to Canada.
So,despite I was very disapointed with the customer service,I purchased a 650 in a Canadian store.
It is for my girlfried, buy I must work on it (she do'nt like deal with computers) and I found it very easy to insert books in and most important very easy to read...
As I wrote before,my eyes are very tired to work on LCD screens...

Thanks a lot for the advices...

Yes, you can read in landscape mode on all of the Sony devices. I think the zoom on the Sony for PDFs is a bit better than the Kindle's from what I've seen on video reviews, as the touch screen lets you zoom in on the exact portion of the page that you want and lets you blow it up to the size you want. (if I understood the reviews correctly).

I don't think the Sony store delivers to Canada, but there are other stores that will, such as this one:

Others might as well, but I can't think of any offhand.
