Helper script to load books into fbReader?
Hi,
I love fbReader. I particularly like the fact that I can read part of an HTML book and come back to the same place after a break. However, I have tons of HTML books (as well as a couple of other formats that fbReader can read) and I have them sorted into directories by author name and then by filetype. fbReader won't automatically load them because they're distributed through so many directories and because it doesn't know how to automatically get the author name. Does anyone know of a helper script that could scrounge through these directories recursively and build an fbreader library file of all the readable books within, preferably including the directory as the author's name? (If the script is in perl or shell script, I could probably tweak that part.) Thanks! |

I don't have a script, but for your HTML books I suggest adding a .opf file to each one rather can trying to update FBReader's library file directly. This is the XML file that converts a book into the OEB format, which FBReader imports directly into its library for you. It also imports from subdirectories, if you check the search subdirectories option under the general tab of the options icon. By the way, there is now some documentation on how to use FBReader here. It isn't much more than you can find out yourself by exploring the icons though.
I have looked for a HTML2OEB or HTML2OPF script without success, but there must be one out there. |

Thanks. Many of these HTML books have OPF files already, so I'll try the subdirectory option and see if it can pick up the books. The current OPF files don't have the author's name in all cases, though. If necessary, I can probably write a script to generate better OPF files, since that's just XML, and then let FBReader try its import.
