Carey Rockwell - Also try our Library for some free titles in this series.

Here's the one from Amazon with the most reviews, the one I also own:

http://www.amazon.com/Corbett-Space-...tt+space+cadet

There are many to choose from, however.

1) Always write 3 sentences of exposition; 2) now create some dialogue, preferably no more than 2 sentences; and 3) make certain the dialogue is either inane or humorous. Example:
“Bob, I did not know you wore yellow suspenders,” Sally remarked.
“Gee, Sally, those are not suspenders. I am wearing yellow underwear today,” Bob revealed.

The dialogue above will help produce at least 100 more pages of dialogue.

I loved Tom Corbet space cadet when I was a kid!

I'd be kind of afraid of re-reading them for fear of destroying the memory...

and....just saw this, in looking at that:

They are a very inferior copy of Heinlein's classic juvenile novel "Space Cadet". The original is better in every way, I think.

I bought the entire series as p-books at a library sale about 30 years ago. Each book in perfect condition! I gave them to my son when he was 12, and he has them today, carefully wrapped, waiting for his yet-to-be-born son (expected this Spring) to pass along the great stories. I wonder if, when his son is 12, he will think an 'electric runabout' is usual?

....ah, yes, that would go back to Victor Appleton (the first).

I was able to pick up a few of the old, turn-of-the-[last!]-century Tom Swift titles and was amused by some of the titles.

Anyway [he ejaculated], I'm outta here!

I collect turn of the 20th century children's books, and have a complete set of the original "Tom Swift" books. They are among my favourites, although naturally they do reflect the cultural norms of the time, which can come across as offensive today. Eg, one of the regular characters in the books is a black man who speaks like a caricature, calling Tom "Massa Tom", and so on.

Yes, the first.. An author friend of mine wrote one or more of the more recent releases in that on-going series.

Have you ever read a book where you keep reading and reading and reading but you feel like you're not getting anywhere?? That's what reading The First Confessor is like! I mean, it's not bad, it just feels like it's never going to end! It's LONG. LOL

My favorite books when I was a kid were the Mushroom Planet books. I wish they were out on e-book. I'd love for my kids to read them.

Yep, I've read a few stories like that just today...when they become that way I start skipping ahead and if they continue then I'm done...

Some writers just don't know how to tell a story. (or they are intentionally stretching/padding what should be a much shorter, better story)

When I was either in kindergarten or before I had gotten old enough for kindergarten (so I wasn't yet reading books) we got our first TV, a 7 inch model with a wooden cabinet that was darn near the size of a dishwasher. My favorite TV show was Tom Corbet, Space Cadet. I know now that Heinlein hated it so much that he had his credit removed from the show. But that sure wouldn't have bothered me then if I'd known. I believe that the books were a spinoff of the TV show.

Which was excellent. Highly recommend to anyone who likes SF short stories.

Next: Tiger by the Tail by John Ringo.

I've found this completely over the top series enjoyable. I look forward to whatever fantasy he's concocted now for "The Kildar".

If you've not come across this series before, I recommend the review here: Oh, John Ringo, No!
