London, Jack: White Fang. V2. 2 September 2012

First serialized in Outing magazine, it was published in 1906. The story takes place in Yukon Territory, Canada, during the Klondike Gold Rush at the end of the 19th-century, and details a wild wolfdog's journey to domestication. White Fang is a companion novel (and a thematic mirror) to London's best-known work, The Call of the Wild, which is about a kidnapped, domesticated dog embracing his wild ancestry to survive and thrive in the wild.

Much of the novel is written from the view-point of his canine character, enabling London to explore how animals view their world and how they view humans. White Fang examines the violent world of wild animals and the equally violent world of humans. The book also explores complex themes including morality and redemption.

(From Wikipedia)

This is my first Jack London book and I will follow this with others of his work. I'll try and present on this site as many of his novels, short stories and other works as I can find and that are in the public domain.

This book has been thoroughly proof-read against a 1906 Macmillan edition of the novel. I went word-by-word through the entire book, so hopefully I've not missed anything. I will note that the language of the book matches that of the book I proofed it again, so there may be occasions of mixed American- and British-English, but that is what is in the book, so that is what I produced. This is as close to the original source that I have been able to find, if a more accurate version becomes available, I'll re-proof the book.

I've included the image plates (all eight of them) in the book as well, as I've found no evidence they are still copyrighted. I'll remove them if evidence appears that they are not in the public domain.

Special thanks to SBT who offered to fix the images and had managed a fantastic job, even got the scenery plates into a condition that they can now actually be included.
Brilliant job mate!

Enjoy.

Ghostlyjack, that would be all of his works (except one completion by another author). He died in 1916, making him PD in US (pre-1923), Life + 50 countries, and Life + 70 countries.

Then I will have a lot of work on my hands.

I thought this was the case, but you never can tell if you haven't researched all the stories. So thought it was a good idea just to put that little bit in.

I've now uploaded version 2 as SBT had fixed the images for me.

You did a billiant job mate considering the source files weren't in a good shape.

All the colour image plates have been improved and resized to 800 pixels high. I thought that would be the better size due to 600x800 is the standard size for eInk readers.

SBT has also managed to fix the scenery plates, there are all in monochrome and not colour (as per the original). I've put those in now as well, as they are good enough to include. I've got two versions of them - smoothed & unsmoothed. I've used the unsmoothed versions as I think they are clearer on eInk. If anyone wants to try the smoothed versions, I can upload them.

I've got larger image sizes and can produce a "HD" version if the demand is there.
