chart e-readers

Interesting chart on the sales on cellphones vs computers.
This chart talks about the e-reader market vs the tablet; I think the numbers are a bit off though:

Not all that interesting. Desktop/laptop computers are expensive and rarely more than one per household - and in much of Asia home computers are EXTREMELY rare. Smartphones are generally cheap or free with contract, so generally one per adult and teenager in the household in most of the industrialized world.

Their tablet number's definitely out of whack, even if they include dedicated e-readers and if those are worldwide numbers. The iPad's sold only 55.8 million or so, as of the end of 2011, supposedly a 68.7% worldwide market share - meaning only 81.2 million tablets sold worldwide since its release. That chart shows 1.25 *billion* tablets at the moment, therefore is definitely out of touch with reality, even if you include dedicated e-readers.

''We Are Here'' points to roughly the halfway mark between 1 billion and 1.5 billion (or "thousand millions" for some folks, I guess).

That is a bad chart. Period. (Somebody teach those guys about technology adoption curves!)
But the tablet portion is just the orange wedge.

Maybe I am reading the chart wrong as I only see 150 million tablets for 2012 which I think might be low?

1, <- Billions (aka "Thousand Millions" in some regions)

5 <- Hundreds of Millions
0 <- Tens of Millions
0, <- Millions

0 <- Hundreds of Thousands
0 <- Tens of Thousands
0, <- Thousands

0 <- Hundreds
0 <- Tens
0 <- Basic numbers.

The chart goes from 500 million to 3 billion (in increments of five hundred thousands).

Ah. There's another page to the article I didn't notice. I was, of course, going by the first page's chart - which is also on the second page and doesn't agree with other charts they use.

Shoddy work. And extremely annoying to read due to the format. Also seems rather biased.

Ahh I must be getting the wrong chart from the link. The one I see says units sold (millions) with 500 at the top.

It does seem to be quite a mishmash of charts and I am confused by the others more than the first. Oh well.

My favorite was the "Android iPads" on one of the graphs.

@JD Gumby: They seem to be overlay charts, not regular charts; kind of like one chart layed on top of the other. They used the wrong format there, but perhaps their numbers are more accurate than the graph shows.

If in the above picture the light blue are tablets and tablet-likes, and the dark desktop pc's and laptops, then there are about 40 million tablets sold at this time, and 100 million pc's. Not 150million (just to illustrate overlayed).

Another thing that's not mentioned, is that it could add on the previous year results (meaning counting total sales so far, not yearly sales)... Just saying there are indeed many ways to interpret the graphs.
In any case, I found it an interesting read. If not, just for what the original writer saw, even if it may be totally different from the way we perceive the world around us.
