This is an interesting hybrid device but we need to know much more about it before we could judge it. Remarks about the bezel and the colour are pretty much irrelevant.

What I would like to know is the type of ARM processor powering the Android OS. For example, if it is a 1Ghz Snapdragon, we can expect a lot of goodies like:
- Decent browsing
- Working Java apps (It has recently been ported and certified by Sun itself)
- Working Flash (10 is promised by Adobe to run on ARM v7 soon)

These 3 things are the most important for me on a reading/browsing/companion device.

Where is the Astak Spectrum with its rumored Pixel Qi screen? We haven't heard about it for a while. That would be a competing device.

I like the dedicated menu button which seems to allow fast switching between functions (browsing/reading....etc). It can be seen on the demo flash page.

I wonder if it has an accelerometer and supports browsing in landscape mode.

It would be nice if one could activate a big on-screen keyboard onto the e-ink panel when using the lcd panel in landscape mode (a la OLPC XO-2). That tiny on-screen keyboard which was demoed on the LCD screen may not serve well.

I don't think it has an accelerometer, taking a close look on the buttons on the left panel it seems like it has a position adjust (circular arrow), beauty of android means if it isnt present your should be able to configure it for a full size keyboard.

Judging from the Hinge you should be able to fold it completely and i dare say an e-ink only mode would be a logical option

For me, one of the major advantages of electronic readers is that they are less bulky and easier to use (hold) than physical books. This takes all of that and throws it out the window. It's thick - and it takes up double the amount of space width-wise without giving you any more reading real estate.

Between this device and a physical book - I'd rather just read a physical book...

I think its a sign that the market is taking off when you see the introduction of many crazy frankenstein want-to-be's like this in an attempt to cash in on an emerging market.

Personally I dont really see oem slap together stuff like this really doing very well but like I said its a good sign

They just updated their news section, look's like it will have the folding feature, and the 6 hrs battery life is for both screns, it supports an e-ink only mode that will last 16 hrs

That's good news. I wonder if you can invert it 180 degrees for us left handed folk.

What i really like about this is the price.
Look at all the components: A 9.7" e-ink screen with wacom-digitizer and a 9.7" touchscreen netbook, all together for only $500.
Thats the same as a Kindle DX which does neither have a wacom nor a touchscreen-netbook.

I agree for leisure reading. For academic books, journal articles, textbooks, technical manuals etc. there's a need for larger devices since they can't really be reflowed as tables and figures and charts need to be in a specific layout, text needs to be near related diagrams etc.

I'll definitely stick with something like a Kindle for novel reading. But I want something with a 10" (or even 8.5 x 11) screen for my work--and it needs to have great stylus highlighting and annotating functions.

I don't have much interest in a dual screen device personally though. More something about the size of a legal pad that you can hold in one hand and write with the stylus in the other.

This mostly. I think one side would make good for pdfs, and the other side can make good for comics. Use my pocket pro for books books.

Interesting product, the colour screen would be good for reading comics. And therefore an all-in-one portable reading device for me.

Does anyone know if there is a CBR/CRZ reader for Android?

Should do pdfs better than most. And for the same price as others you get some lcd dead weight!

I'm almost think a MID like that Archos is what you need if you aren't doing novels. Get your pdfs and vivid color comics on one screen. It's not for heavy use, but should do the job right.

16 hours for the eink-only mode is about acceptable. Not outstanding but acceptable.

I will certainly wait until January with my purchase. By that time, I hope, Pixel Qi based readers/laptops will be announced and we will likely have some ARM based smartbooks on the market. It will be easier to decide then.
