"Obsolete" devices and modern formats

With many publishers no longer offering MOBI versions of many books is there any easy to read Kindle or epub books on PalmOS or Windows Mobile devices? Or is there a simple way to convert copyrighted materials to a friendlier format?

Your best bet is to use Calibre to convert to MOBI (or eReader).

Calibre only works on DRM-free ebooks. See Apprentice Alf's Blog for a summary of what can be done to remove DRM.

Welcome to MR, phaeton!

I agree with wallcraft there and would use calibre too on DRM-free works.

As an alternative you could always give the old mobipocket-creator itself a try. I does import DRM-free ePub-files (but as far as I remember not all and interestingly not those created with calibre when I last tried a long time ago ).

A lot of Kindle books only need some cleaning up of DRM and then can be transfered to a WinMobile device without any extra conversions (if you have Mobipocket reader installed) (there are two brands, the topaz one you'll want to avoid at all cost...)

If you have an epub book, and it's also infested with DRM, you'll need to clean up that DRM as well. Then you can easily transform them to mobipocket format and again read them in mobipocket reader.
