ADB Wireless - Anyone have experience with it?

A forum member installed this and will need some help enabling "Non Market Installs". When she rooted, NOOKcolor Tools was not included. How would she go about doing the following which is done via ADB USB?

$ adb pull /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db settings.db
$ sqlite3 settings.db
sqlite> update secure set value=1 where name='install_non_market_apps';
sqlite> .q
$ adb push settings.db /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
$ adb reboot

She's aware of the option to use SQLite Editor to change a value in settings.db.

According to the screenshot at appbrain http://www.androidcentral.com/androi...p-adb-wireless she just has to type "adb connect ip-address" and then do the rest of the commands

I can also confirm that ADB Wireless (free) works great (and I prefer to use it rather than haul out a USB cable, myself). You still need to install the ADB sdk on your PC, but you don't need to get the USB drivers working. You use the same commands from your adb directory on your PC after making a connection (the app will give you the exact adb connect command to use on your PC (IP and port) when you start it.

Thanks to both of you. It may be less overwhelming for her if she just does a factory reset, update to 1.0.1, and re-root as was mentioned in another thread.

ADB Wireless is awesome. It saves so much headache of using the USB. Many people have problems getting the USB to work, which I think in large part is due to the drivers being poorly written and the different OS versions. ADB Wireless solves those issues. You simply hit the button on the screen so the application starts and it gives you the IP. Then all you have to do is open a command prompt (if you installed ABD according to the instructions and updated the files) and type "ADB Connect ipaddress. After that you are good to go with just about anything.

Keep in mind that you should raise the screen timeout on the NC so it doesn't timeout in 2 minutes, as your wireless will also go down and then you must reconnect (and sometimes reboot) to get ADB working again.

There are also applications on the market to access your SD card wireless as well. Many people find this very helpful when transferring files. Keep in mind that you should limit file sizes when using this type of transfer.

Do you have access to a Mac or Windows machine?

I suggest rerooting at this point. You're newly rooted and haven't done much in the way of customizing, putting books on the stock shelves, etc.

If ADB is something you want to get working then you can do it when you have leisure time. Let's just get to the stage where you can enjoy the device first.

This is how you enable ADB:
