Unhappy Can anybody help me solve problem with ADE?

I have no idea where to post this question about not being able to open epub book I bought from Google Play store in my ADE, so please move to appropriate forum.

Problem: I have ADE 2.0 running on Mac. I bought yesterday two books from Google Play.
I got .acsm files, tried to open the books and got the following error "Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem:
E_LIC_LICENSE_SIGN_ERROR".
When I tried again to open same .acsm files I then got the error "Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem:E_ADEPT_INTERNAL".

I am getting these errors only for the last two books bought. All other books I bought from Google Play download normally, as well books I bought from Kobo. Also, I downloaded yesterday, after getting errors, never before rented book from Overdrive, it also downloaded and opened normally.

Following explanation from Adobe here http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editi...-download.html I then de-authorized my ADE, deleted activation.dat file and re-authorized ADE.
However, the same error for only last two purchases remains, while all other books open normally.
I wrote to Google Play but they sent two canned responses and are obviously not reading my mails. I know I can get refund from the store, but I really want the books and Google Play price was the best I got. Plus, I now am not sure if I don't solve this issue, that I will ever again be able to buy from Google.

In the meantime, I managed to download both the books to Play Books app on iphone. But I don't know how to import them to ADE. I simply cannot read on my iphone, I need them for my Kindle

Does anybody have any advice on what I can do? Apart from not using Google 's store?

same issue

I'm having exactly the same issue. I'm using google Play and ade and books fail to open with same error. I've tried ade on ubuntu via wine and on windows. Same error. Other books seem ok.
Seems to be a server authentication error but not sure if it's adobe or google.


Not a very good advert for ade or for drm in General.

I had the same problem today. What finally did the trick for me was opening ADE first and then running the *.asm file. But that was with a book from the Kobe store, I have never used Google play. With those discount codes the Kobe store has pretty good prices.

Probably won't help since I did it yesterday several time both with open ADE and with closed one, quiting the app. But I will for sure try.
I also just chatted with Adobe but they asked to try again in an hour since the person I chatted with didn't know what else to say except for deauthorising reauthorising...

And, I did manage to download both books normally into Play Books app on my iphone, so I would rather think the problem is with ADE.

Google Play in India has some really beautiful deals since the recently started and are competing with Amazon, so I am buying me lots of Penguin Classics at around 4$ per book. Not even Kobo has such deals unless you have coupons of 50% off and more.

In chat with ADE they mainly told me to download ebook sample from their website and then go to file and select add to library and try to add the book. If that works, they say I should speak with Google Play.
They do not care that I normaly downloaded books from Google Play to Iphone...

Will report back once I am at home if there is any new development, might help somebody in the future.

This is a very long shot since it's probably using the same engine as ADE, but you could download Sony Reader software and try opening acsm files with it.

Can I use that software even if I don't have Sony? And I can import my files from Sony Reader to Calibre just like I do from ADE?

I sense this is a Google issue and not Adobe. I too got the exact same issue yesterday when trying to download some free eBooks from Google Play.

It might be. Have you managed to download books today?
What I thought was strange was that I was getting error only for the two newly purchased books, while all previous purchases were re-downloading with .acsm normally.

Yes on both counts. The Sony software will download the files to a different location than ADE, but the EPUB file itself will be the same. As I said, it's a long shot and PeterT is probably right about it being a Google issue.

Ok, I am trying the Sony option.
I chatted today with Adobe people numerous times, reinstalled ADE, didn't help. I also "bought" another Google free book, even that cannot open. But all my previous purchases from Google can (and I even got the unavailable two books on iPhone, though I will not read them and I don't need them there), as well as Overdrive books.
Thanks a lot for all the help.

EDIT: NO, Sony says Failed to download content. For both books from yesterday and for the newly bought free book. I guess I'll have to do something else. Thanks a lot for trying.

Same problem here

I am having the same problem with Google Play books for the past few days. While I have successfully downloaded library books to ADE over the same time period, I get the same error messages shown by others . Further, when I try Sony Reader software, I get the same message about content failing to download. I have had a support incident running with Google for two days, with no response.

Follow up - Google is working on "known problem"

Just spoke to Google to follow up on my incident. The woman I spoke with said that Google is aware of the issue, that it is on their end, and that many users have been affected. Assuming she is correct (my fingers are crossed on that one), this suggests that messing around with ADE will cause you work that will not produce a good outcome. So I, at least, feel like the only solution is to wait for Google on this one.

I only got mail that they are sorry to hear aobut E_LIC_LICENSE_ERORR and that their technical specialists will be contacting me in 3 to 5 business days
I tried yesterday downloading free book from Google Play, no go. Then I opened another gmail account and used that account and another card to download another free book, no go.
After all this, I requested and got refund for my two books. I mean, by the time they solve the issue, 7 days will pass...I really want to buy from them since they have very good prices for some great books in India at the moment, but in the end I found same books on Amazon India for the same price and I downloaded them in 5 seconds flat.
I am sure if Amazon was facing same problem, it would not be 3-5 business days Never happened in my 5 years association with Amazon regarding ebooks, nor regarding anything else before that. Google, think about it!

Just redownloaded the ACSM files from Google Play and opened them in ADE 1.7; all worked great tonight so whatever the issues were at Google they are resolved.
