battery used when fully charged and connected to power outlet?

I was wondering if anyone knew whether it harmed the battery life of the iLiad to leave it on continuously, but connected to a wall socket.. since the battery is supposed to suffer less from more frequent partial recharging, I'm curious to know if it does in fact decrease the lifespan of the battery to just leave it connected/on 24/7 (and carry it with me when needed, obviously, but working from the 'always on' situation as the default)

You are correct in that it is better to keep lithium ion batteries topped off rather than running them down. In regards to harming the batteries I believe the charging circuitry will prevent over charging and harming the batteries.

well, yes.. but are they bypassed entirely when the iLiad is connected to a wall, or are they still used, and as such 'wearing' because the iLiad is on?

I'm not sure, but I know the iLiad will work just fine from the power supply with batteries and power board completely removed from the device. This would lead one to believe the batteries are bypassed when on the charger, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I have a program that reads the battery current directly from the battery monitor IC chip. According to my program, once the battery is topped off there is zero current into or out of the iLiad's battery as long as you leave it plugged in.

Over a long, long time, it's possible that the battery would self-discharge to the point that it would top up again. But that would not happen very often.
