Women buy 60% of all eBooks!!

Dear lilac_ jive:

Yes. That is why I asked. I am the opposite of sexist. I am MORE than concerned that I do NOT create something for me... I want it to be something for all, including (very much) women. That is the intent. To ask women what they want.

This goes back to my basic philosophy: we want to sell what end users want and not say: "here it is, now buy the damned thing".

I am trying to save something for the grand announcement. I am doing a lousy job.

ONE of the particularly good things about this certain website is that ALL content on it will be PDF and EPUB. Our intent is to cut out the agravation of finding a title and then wondering if it will be offered in your chosen format. At this certain website, you will not even have to guess.

SO...please be there!!

Do not forget to include meta data about the book, especially it's length. Some sites don't do this, and I won't buy from them, having been 'burned' by purchasing a book at what seemed a reasonable price, then finding it was only 10 pages long !!!

I have read The first Kay Scarpetta book. But, I'm still deciding if I want to read the next one. The writing just seemed to put me off a tad. I've also read some of the J.D. Robb books and they are pretty food and the sex is not all that in your face. And the book I am reading now is The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly by Kim Harrison.

I've read other books were the lead is female. So yes, men do read such books. We just don't read the books where the sex/romance.porn is the focus of the book.

An example of a good interface is when I want to see the newly added books and don't have to have a limit in the number of hits as the site will just give me all in date order.

We definitely do not mean porn at all... but I was recently amazed when I leafed through a female erotica book we have that surprised me. I had expected kind of "soft core"... The UPS guy with rippled muscles who the woman secretly lusted for. What I found is that female erotica gets pretty specific> toys, spankings, certain rings, gags, blindfolds and more in relatively vivid detail.

Rest assured that the new website is NOT a den of roped and tied UPS guys at the hands of a dominatrix. BUT, we want to make this amenable to all interests. Yes: mystery, espionage, romance, adventures, non-fiction, needlepoint, spiritual, how-to and science fiction will all be there. In short, we will not censor anything.

Now, WHEN this certain website is released... it will not be perfect. We have a ton of eBooks on there for everything from cooking to exercising to dieting to UPS guys built like Stonehenge. I am heavily into action/adventure fiction. I love Dirk Pitt and Tom Clancy and W.E.B. Griiffon, and all that sort of genre. There will be a ton of everything on there. BUT... we will be adding to the site. I want to add eBooks from Harlequin and from "Smart Bitches Who Love Trashy Books". I view this as a constant work in progress. Yes, almost all of the latest Bestsellers from the New York Times will be there. Yes, I personally monitor those New York Times lists weekly and we add those titles. Eventually, I want to go after everything from Environmental eBooks to books in languages other than English.

Thank you, all, for the ideas.
I just found a book at the library (eBook) that's a BDSM version of Alice in Wonderland. It's titled Alice in Chains. Turns out it's the 2nd of 3 books but only the 2nd is available. I didn't know Overdrive had erotica. I thought it was just romance at best. The category is erotic literature.

Dear Jusmee:

ALL of our present content is the full eBook and not a portion. That I can assure you.

I do not know if the content comes with that info (we cannot count the pages for every title ourselves); BUT I have made the recommendation that we should add this as soon as we can. Let me see if we have that!!

I think they are talking about file size or word count. Stinks when you pay money for a full book and it's really just a novella. File size comes in handy for me, and ESPECIALLY helpful on smashwords (since tons of people there put up books that are extremely short)

You obviously do not read books from Baen
Honor Harrington
Calley O'neil

(more I don't remember off the top)
Other Publishers
The Kris Longknife series
Many of L.E. Modesitts series'
Vatta's war series

there are lots of Leading Female characters out ther in SF land

Yes, that's what I meant. The purchased 'ebook' was the whole thing, just that it was a short story - not a full length novel.

You can't always trust file size, because some include a large graphic (front page or whatever) and that inflates the file size - in fact it can be bigger than the book itself

Word count is a good idea , and it can be automated. Some have a reading time, but I bet it's estimated from word count.
