You missed Ea's point. Languages which are derived from Latin - French, Spanish, Italian, etc - are called (in English) "romance" languages. Hence, by definition, one could indeed refer to them as "romantic".

Anyway, "liseuse" sounds like mouthwash, and anyone who has actually met the French in their native environment will quickly drop any romantic connotations to the word "romantic" as used in the English language to refer to the romance languages.

Also, my vote is for ereader because it seems to send some people into apoplectic fits.

I've heard a version with a Danish king (can't remember which, but might be Christian IV, a colourful character and it fits timewise):

He'd speak Latin to God, French at court, German to servants, and Danish to his dogs.
