True. The site only offers you the "Transfer via PC" option if you have a physical Kindle device registered.

I just downloaded the old Windows K4PC and all worked fine. However, during installation, it warned me that this version is soon to be discontinued.

Btw, I found the ebooks for K4PC for Win8. They are in a directory under your user home, in AppData/local. They are stored one to a directory, with a GUID style name, in fragment files with metadata. Not AZW at all!
