calibre on chrome os

There is quite a bit of news about chromebooks being enabled to run Linux natively. I would be very interested to learn if calibre could be run on a chromebook without resorting to crouton. This is quite new and, so far as I know, it is speculative. I would be grateful for anyone's experience along these lines.

I'm sure I saw a post recently where it seems Chrome OS does not have one of the virtual file systems that calibre uses to get info on attached device's.
