Don't believe everything you read. My Kindle has been through the scanner/x-ray at airports multiple times without any problems.

Absolutely. Also, note that the headline is based on what some random person (Michael Hart, from London) said. On the other hand, a leading expert on electronic ink said "I don’t think the radiation used in an airport scanner would ever be strong enough to damage an electronic ink display,”
Naturally, the Telegraph went with the opinion of some random Kindle user in preference to the opinion of a leading expert on e-ink. |

I just took 2 flights last week (Toronto Miami and back again) with my new Kindle non-touch, both times through the scanner, no issues. My wife's Kindle keyboard was also fine. This isn't the first time i've gone through airport scanners with Kindles either.

One of the family Kindles has been through about 60 flights in the last two years, no problems at all. I don't see how there would be, unless you manage to physically drop it or get it crushed in a bin.

From what I read in the article it's not the radiation damaging the kindle but static build up from the conveyor belt. I could see how static would damage the kindle but have to agree that the radiation of a X-Ray scanner would not cause damage.

So you think that a static discharge could hit a Kindle inside its case, inside a bag, while sitting in a plastic bin? How exactly would that work?

Just get a Kindle Touch. It has X-ray and Amazon's X-ray is so powerful, it repels airport X-rays.

You have to have something to blame. It could never be your fault if your ereader broke.

Utter tripe. All of my kindles (k2, k3, KT) have been through scanners multiple times, with no problems.

Maybe some airports have a big shag carpet and they ask you to remove your shoes and shuffle along the carpet to build up some static, then they take your kindle out of it's bag/case and say "here hold this" and you hear a static ZAP!!!

I think we have uncovered the TSA's secret plan to stop all of those pesky shoe bombs making it onto the plane.
