PRS-600 Linux kernel doesn't detect PRS-600 external memory

I've recently purchased a memory stick pro duo (2G) for my PRS-600. When the card is in the reader and the reader is plugged into the computer only the internal memory is detected by Linux.

I get this output from dmesg:

It doesn't not detected even the presence of the memorystick. Is there any particular kernel config option I am supposed to have selected? My kernel is custom and thus doesn't have support for everything.

I'm not sure which distro or kernel you're running, but you probably just need to enable "CONFIG_SCSI_MULTI_LUN" when you compile your kernel. You could also run "rescan-scsi-bus -l" (as root) and see if that picks up your memory stick.

I had a similar problem on Slackware 12.0 where it would only recognize the first disk in an external disk array, but running "rescan-scsi-bus -l" after bootup would detect all the disks and allow me to mount them.

I'm currently runnig Ubuntu 9.10 and 4 'devices'are recognized when connecting my reader.

Most of the time this is the problem for the custom kernel. Most of the users will forget about this option, it is not default and is not under USB driver options but under SCSI.

I recompiled the kernel with the config from Gentoo's liveDVD. This closed the issue I was having.

You are most likely right about the missing CONFIG_SCSI_MULTI_LUN option. I am pretty sure that the option was not set in my custom kernel build.
