[Old Thread] Asus Transformer - Can't download books from content server

hi guys i've just been setting up and playing around with my content server and it works perfectly on my asus transformer except for when i try to download a book it just fails to download everytime.

does anyone have any suggestions?

i've tried it on other pcs and it downloads fine but for some reason its not downloading when i access the server from my transformer.

You might want to give a few more details than just "fails to download everytime". Are there any error messages? What actually happens? Which interface of the content server are you using?

I am having the same problem with not beeing able to download from Asus Transformer.

I am using Dolphin HD browser, but have tried others too.

It happens in all interfaces

It works fine when i download from my mobile phone, a HTC Desire HD.

Only error message is on the tablet:

Download failed (translated from danish, so I am not sure that it is the exact words)

Make sure you dont have authentication enabled in the server, IIRC various android devices have problems with Digest auth.

It works now, when username and password are left empty. It is not ideal though. Are there any way to blok a random user to access my books?

setup a reverse proxy with apache and use some other form of authentication in apache.

yeah i figured this one out on my own, i turned off authentication and it worked fine. its a bit of a pain but im not to worried as i have a dynamic DNS setup thru DYNDNS.org so i think it will be hard for people to just guess the address of my content server unless i directly give them the info.

I seem to be having exactly the same problem from a Sony PRS-T1. But I'd rather not turn off Apache authorization. Any ideas?

I have followed the instructions in the Calibre manual to set up Apache reverse proxy to the Windoz calibre server. Basic auth is used in Apache. Everything works fine from another windows machine, or an iPad. I can browse the library and download OK. But with the Sony, my apache log looks like the one above... there's a 401 error on the GET of the epub. If I turn off basic authentication then it works from the Sony. Interestingly, the authentication works to allow browsing of the Calibre library. It's just the downloading of the epub that fails.

Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated. I love Calibre. This is the only wrinkle I've had with it. Happy New Year.

Turns out the Sony PRST1 uses the Android web browser. The problem of an authorization failure is a known bug on Android. Sony appears not to have fixed it, although it's been reported on the Android forums for more than 2 years now. I guess I have to just live with it.

Options are to do auth by IP address, if that doesn't change very often. Another possibility is to authorize by browser type. The PRST1 reports itself as EBRD1101 in the user-agent field.
