Disappearing "Download metadata" button

Hi,
Over the last few months and over a number of version (i.e. pre 2.0 and up to including v2.1) I have observed the following odd behaviour:

• Select edit metadata
• "Download metadata" button is present
• Select "Custom Metadata" tab
• Return to "Basic Metadata" tab
• "Download Metadata" has disappeared
• The button will reappear when the edit metadata is closed and opened again

I was wondering if I was the only one experiencing this and also what information should I provide if I were to report it as a bug through the bug facilities.

@rmagere - That looks like enough info to me, but I can't get the problem on 2.1

Try selecting another layout - Preferences->Behaviour->Edit Metadata (single) layout - its just above the left hand list.

Confirmed.
Exactly as stated on 2.0 on XP sp3

(Note: I never saw it before because I use 'All on 1 tab' mode)

Thanks changing layout does address the issue (I find the alternative layouts a bit awkard as I have a lot of custom fields that are not always used).

Interesting that you do not have the issue as I am on v2.1 win7 64 bit same as you.

Did you trying changing the layout back to the one you prefer.

I find all the layouts awkward. I do all my metadata editing on the Book List, only using the single book editor as a last resort.

AFAIK the only thing you can't edit in the list is Comments, I fixed that by not using Comments Instead I use a custom column (Notes) that's configured as being like Comments - which I can edit direct from the Book List. To do metadata downloading from the Book List I use Ctrl/D - I think it's called bulk metadata download, but it works on single book.

Maybe I'm not seeing the problem because 'it knows' I don't use the single metadata edit window

I've not seen the problem so I wouldn't know if it can be worked around, at this stage my suggested workaround (change layouts) didn't work - maybe Kovid's suggestion at launchpad will offer a clue.

I don't think going back and forth from the list to the editor for each book is a much of a workaround given there's a next button in the Editor.

And the OP and I both use Win7 so its nought to do with XP

FWIW: it works fine for me, Win7Pro calibre 2.1. "default" layout. The button is visible on the bottom of the Basic Metadata tab before and after I visit the Custom metadata tab. I must scroll down in both cases to see it.

I had not - just tried and the issue has disappeared!
