New Lead Ship Times

Apple has changed the lead ship times for the iPad on their online store to 7 to 10 business days.

Any indications on the reason behind this?

There is a lawsuit for patent infringement in which the other company (I forget which one) was trying to get an injunction to prevent Apple from importing any more units from China (where they're made)? Maybe Apple is hedging ship times to compensate for legal wrangles?

Legal matters of this type get tied up in court for years and will have no affect on this. I am wondering if they are having issues with the component suppliers.

Preorders for the iPad in the UK are now saying they will ship by June 7th, rather than arrive by May 28th. Same for the French, German and Italian sites.

Yes but that is for people who ordered on the 12th or after the original orders will still make it on the 28th.

Well, the obvious suggestion for the delay could be better-than-expected pre-orders caught them on the hop without enough stock to fulfil them in time - no?

The same thing happened with the american release, it just means they sold out the initial launch allocation and the new date is when the next batch for online sale will be available.

I ordered my ipad last Sunday and it shipped today. It's at Lantau Island, Hong Kong now. They must be shipping them straight off the line.

It has been waiting at the Lantau Island FedEx facility for over 48 hours now. They had better hurry if they are delivering Thursday morning.

Local apple store is on 7-10 day wait according to the staff. My girlfriend was trying to pick up a 32gb 3G model for a friend out of country. She's on the list, but doubt she'll get it before her trip this week.

Still selling like hotcakes I guess, and I'm sure a lot of stock is getting diverted to other regions for the international launches as well.

The shipper's updates may lag as much as twenty four hours. At least that's what they said when I was obsessively checking the progress across half the globe...

The increase in shipping time has probably a lot to do with the huge demand. My local Best Buy hasn't had a sales model for over two weeks. They also don't have covers or camera connection kits...

Hopefully you're right but it has been updating daily and it still says Lantau. It says it's on schedule though.
My cover is not supposed to ship until June 8.

Are there any internal differences for the iPads that are shipped outside of North America?

afaik the hardware is the same, the os is tweaked for language differences, and in europe with the lower volume limit for headphones. other than reading about those, i'm not aware of any changes.
