If i have a print version...
I'm sure a thread already exists, but I did not see it....
If I have a print version of an book, is it legal for me to have a ebook copy that I did not pay for (that I might have made myself, for example)? |

IF you make the ebook version yourself, you are safe. However, you are not allowed to get the electronic version from someone else, according to the law. Just like you wouldn't be able to distribute the copy you made to someone else.

Yup, fair use only applies if you create it, otherwise you're benefitting from someone else's subsequent work done after you bought your original copy. Took time and money to make the ebook copy.

It is not legal, one of those quirks of copyright law where you could scan the book but can't let someone else do the work and send it to you.
If you dislike this you can always write your congresscritters. |
