Glyn, Elinor: Three Weeks. V 1. 16 January 2013

Elinor Glyn's risque masterpiece, Three Weeks (1907) tells of an young Englishman's brief but passionate affair with the exotic and mysterious "Mme Zalenska", and its consequences.

A popular romantic novel of that era, in which a single young man has an affair with a married woman, was definitely hot stuff, and the book was condemned as immoral in some sections of the US.

It was made into a very successful movie in 1924, with Eileen Pringle as "Mme Zalenska".

This edition uses the Gutenberg text, which needed only a few fixes (mostly hard returns in mid-sentence). I created a cover incorporating a publicity still from the 1924 movie showing Eileen Pringle draped over a tiger skin, a table of contents, and, for fun, added the famous but anonymous little ditty:

Would you like to sin
With Elinor Glyn
On a tiger skin
Or would you prefer
To err with her
On another fur?

This is one of the books which S J Perelman re-read for his "Cloudland Revisited" series of pieces, entitled "Tuberoses and Tigers".
