John Whitlatch. He wrote 11 books before dying from a brain tumor in 1981.
The covers were lurid, but the books were great. I have them all in paper, but will probably never see them published as ebooks.

Sir Henry Rider Haggard. Books like "King Solomon's Mines" and "She" are the equal of any modern thriller. Haggard pretty much invented the "Lost World" genre of adventure stories. You'll find all 60-odd of his novels here at MR in a 15-volume set of omnibus editions.
