Please don't post any self-published books, and please do a search before posting to avoid duplicates. Thanks!

Plague Town: An Ashley Parker Novel by Dana Fredsti is $1.99 from Titan Books.

Quote:
Ashley was just trying to get through a tough day when the world turned upside down.

A terrifying virus appears, quickly becoming a pandemic that leaves its victims, not dead, but far worse. Attacked by zombies, Ashley discovers that she is a 'Wild-Card' -- immune to the virus -- and she is recruited to fight back and try to control the outbreak.

It's Buffy meets the Walking Dead in a rapid-fire zombie adventure!
The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor (The Walking Dead Series) by Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga is $1.99 from Macmillan.

Quote:
Winner of the 2011 Diamond Gem Award for Trade Book of the Year

In the Walking Dead universe, there is no greater villain than The Governor. The despot who runs the walled-off town of Woodbury, he has his own sick sense of justice: whether it’s forcing prisoners to battle zombies in an arena for the townspeople’s amusement, or chopping off the appendages of those who cross him. The Governor was voted “Villain of the Year” by Wizard magazine the year he debuted, and his story arc was the most controversial in the history of the Walking Dead comic book series. Now, for the first time, fans of The Walking Dead will discover how The Governor became the man he is, and what drove him to such extremes.

KDP freebie: Flower of Scotland 2 by William Meikle (ISFDB entry, had an Honorable Mention listing in those Windling/Datlow Year's Best Fantasy & Horror anthologies), a collection of shorts which the author says have all appeared in genre magazines; the title I randomly checked corresponds to a 1994 appearance in a horror-looking small press publication and he seems to do a lot of faux-Lovecraft homages (at least title-wise).

KDP freebie: Jigsaw Man by Gord Rollo (ISFDB entry) who as a matter of fact is technically a fellow MR member author, but who only ever showed up to complain about the freebie listing in this forum when Dorchester gave one of his books away (to be fair, this was back during that point where they weren't paying their authors royalties owed before they imploded). This one was originally out from Dorchester/Leisure in 2008, but was not the title complained about, IIRC.

It's too bad the poor fellow didn't wish to become involved in our community, but rather came here only to complain about being cheated of his money.

Free Inside a Haunted Mind by K. Patrick Malone. From A-Argus Better Book Publishers.

Quote:
Small town police Chief, Terry Chagford is dying . . . of fright. The evil he thought he'd destroyed when he burned down the old Victorian house on the edge of town is back and it is after him. . . but not only him. It also wants Martin Welliver, the World Trade Center survivor he'd dragged from a car in the river not long before. Welliver, in an unfortunate twist of fate, bought the house hoping to find peace and quiet from a violent and uncaring world only to act as a conduit to revive the evil waiting for someone like him to give it life. But what do the Mah Jong tiles and dreams of murder have to do with it all? What is the link between the house and the old woman with the Mah Jong tile bracelet? Chagford is a man riddled with personal demons. With his growing thirst for alcohol, increasing dependence on pain killers and bouts of crippling depression, could it be that it is all just the terrifying sum of his crumbling mind? And why can he not get it out of his mind?

KDP freebie:

Hellborn (Redrum Horror) by Gary Brandner (ISFDB entry). Some kind of demonic possession thing, originally out from Fawcett in 1981. (Incidentally, if you're looking for older Brandner, it looks like he's signed up with Prologue Books for affordable low-cost editions of his backlist. Too bad they no longer give out the freebies. I still haven't finished reading any of the pulps I picked up during that 99 cent mega-sale, but I don't regret buying the lot since they're pricing their books very reasonably and acquiring good authors across multiple genres, and are couponable at Kobo & Books on Board, last I checked.)

There's also an established author self-pub novel w/ eerie village terrifying the hapless visitors by Anthony Izzo (published by Kensington/Pinnacle, ISFDB entry), if you're interested.

Here's the link for Izzo, which is free:

http://www.amazon.com/Forgotten-eboo...der_B00BINQ7NC

Thanks for listing both of these, which I now picked up.

I'm a fan of Gary Brandner. If any members here are not familiar with this author, he's the guy who wrote "The Howling."

Progeny (Bigfoot Book)

Progeny by Patrick C. Greene

I'm not sure if this is self-published or simply indie. (There is a publisher listed.) It's shelved under both horror and action/adventure -- a nice combination.

Also, the author has a Facebook event/promotion thingie going on right now for people who download the free Kindle book and post.

I did an interview with the Author of The Walking Dead on my blog! Thanks for the heads up on the $1.99 for the first book! (well looks like it's back up to $10)

I'm quite a ways into it.

You almost like the character who you know is going to become the most evil character on TV by the end..

Free from Permuted Press: Cannibal Corpse, M/C by Tim Curran.

Quote:
Following a major pandemic, the country is in ruins. West of the Mississippi River is a hellzone known as the DEADLANDS.

Here, bioengineered Corpse Worms rain from the blood-streaked sky, reanimating the dead. And here, atomic weapons have created legions of mutants, primeval monsters, and wild chaotic weather patterns.

Enter: John Slaughter. Hardcore outlaw biker. Blood member of the Devil's Disciples. A very wanted man. Captured by the army, the feds want him to lead a gang of his old bikers across the Mississippi and into the nuclear wastes of the Deadlands.

His objective: Snatch a high-level biologist who is being held at an old NORAD fortress by a paramilitary terrorist group. It will mean a raid into territory swarming with the living dead, mutations, and sects of psychotic survivalists...not to mention the Cannibal Corpse motorcycle club, blood enemies of the Devil’s Disciples.

His incentive: his brother is being held at a federal prison back east on charges of sedition. If Slaughter does not bring back the biologist, his brother will be executed.

The drawback: An ancient, diabolic evil has claimed the Deadlands and is in league with Cannibal Corpse. And unless Slaughter can stop it, it will pick its teeth with the last bones of the human race.
